The Joys of Riding the Subway: Part 3

Today I continue my 4 part series on the joys of riding the subway. Check out Part 1 and Part 2 for the full story thus far.

This week, I’ve got the most brief but maybe the most important reason for why riding the subway is so cool.

3. Common Courtesy

I’ve seen more common courtesy on the train than anywhere else in New York. (I’ve also seen a ton of rude people too but anyways…)

It just makes my heart warm when men give up their seats for elderly women, when a person switches seats with a mom so she can sit next to her kid, when a stranger helps lift another strangers suitcase or stroller, when people get out of the way of someone trying to catch a train, or when a passenger holds the door long enough for an old man to get out without being crushed by the doors.

The common courtesy just about makes up for all those others curmudgeons.

Good job New York.
